The San Francisco 49ers are a National Football League (NFL) team based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since they joined the NFL in 1949, the 49ers have played at the Super Bowl, the NFL’s annual championship game, seven times and won five of those games. The team first played at the Super Bowl in 1982, when they beat the Cincinnati Bengals 26-21 to clinch their first NFL championship title.

The San Francisco 49ers were unable to defend their title the following year and only made it back to the Super Bowl in 1985 when they went up against the Miami Dolphins, who they crushed 38-16 to earn their second Super Bowl title. In their third appearance at the Super Bowl in 1989, they again beat the Cincinnati Bengals 20-16. They were then able to defend their title in 1990 against the Denver Broncos, winning their fourth Super Bowl title with a 55-10 victory.

The 49ers last Super Bowl win was in 1995 when they defeated the San Diego Chargers 49-26. Since then, the team has played at the Super Bowl twice, in 2013 and 2020
