A student at the University of Delaware, Sophia Eick studies nursing at an undergraduate level. With a grade point average of 3.8, Sophia Eick earned a spot on the dean’s list from fall 2018 to fall 2019, along with membership to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), an organization that recognizes high-achieving students and provides them with graduate school and career connections, service opportunities, and leadership opportunities.
Membership in the NSCS is available to undergraduate students and is by invitation only. However, it does not discriminate between academic disciplines, as long as students meet the minimum requirements for NSCS membership. This includes having a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Eligible students must also have completed at least one term’s worth of credits, but they cannot have enough credits for a bachelor's degree at their institution. They also must be either first- or second-year undergraduate students when they apply.
Students who meet these requirements receive an invitation to the NSCS as long as their institution has an active chapter of the organization. For students at a college or university with no active NSCS chapter, the organization does allow for self-nomination. The NSCS looks solely at academic performance, not considering disability, age, financial status, sex, or religion.
